Neurodiversity affirming speech, language and communication practice is everyone's responsibility, because communication is not a stand alone concept. We communicate, interact and experience language all day, every day. Whether that's with people, online, through media, reading or music, there are a variety of forms.

Language is complicated, and rich. It varies by person, area, country and culture. Supporting autistic communication is not and cannot come from one single assessment with one set of generic recommendations.

The way we work, the words we use and write in our reports, the tools of our trade as speech and language therapists, assistants, SENDCos, communication leads in settings significantly shift the narrative we create about autistic communication and how it should be supported.
